My Observation Special Place - by Rebecca Willmond, Garden Intern Summer 2015

Settling into my "Observation Special Place" I noticed several changes.  The squash plant which found a place to break through the fence last time I visited has now traversed the ground and is about to reach the cherry tree under which I sit.  In several places nearby a beautiful delicate orange flower has appeared and at the turn of the head I was able to all to briefly witness a flower's encounter with a hummingbird.  The sap on the tree (pictured last blog post) has changed shape.  And a double !yeah! for the cool freshness invigorating our senses, brought to us by the fall of rain of these last few days!

I was asked and did make a fruit crisp for a birthday celebration.  Since I have not really done much cooking in many years and I am definitely not a baker I failed to taste the dish to see how palatable it was.  Well, it was somewhat tart but it did get eaten, so I consider it a success.

One could surely tell the garden's delight in the recent fall of rain.  Most of the time I spend the days harvesting......the last of the garlic and produce for our community meals, canning plums, watering, weeding, cleaning the potting shed while the physically more able 20+ year old interns started working on building a fabulous cob oven.

I am now settling into my twice moved tent (from a sloped location to a more level one) after having house sat for three weeks.  Beta testing to see if I can comfortably live in a tent for long periods of time as one of the tenets in this new chapter of my life.
