Songaia Cohousing Community
Songaia was first imagined over 30 years ago. Our land was purchased in 1986 as a boarding school for teenagers, and after more than a decade of planning and growth, Songaia was officially born as an intentional community in 2000. We live in modest homes with abundant land and common facilities near Seattle, serving as an oasis amid a monotone desert of residential development on all four sides. Songaia is multi-generational (ages 43 to 85) and we strive to be lively, diverse, and Earth-centered.
Songaia has grown by incorporating adjacent properties, allowing us to expand the community. This has also given us space to plant a food forest and further enjoy the bounty of the land around us. Today, the Songaia Greater Neighborhood is a strong, established community of nearly 50 people on ~13 plus acres.

New Earth Song
NES was the first adjacent property bought by people who were interested in being members of the Songaia Community. Two families live there currently. A two story, split level home is located on .5 acres adjacent to the Songaia driveway and garden.
Puppysong & Windsong
These newly built houses are part of the Crestmont Place development built adjacent to Songaia in 2019. Some members of Songaia Greater Neighborhood purchased each of these 2 houses. Current occupants are owners and renters living as shared households. Rersidents of these properties are connected to the Greater Songaia Neighborhood by becoming Next Door Neighbor Associates.

Rite of Passage Journeys
Rite of Passage Journeys base camp has been located on our Songaia property since 1987. Originally its focus was a "Coming of Age " program for young people using the natural world in wilderness experiences led by experienced guides and staff. The program fosters self, discovery, community and connection with the natural world. Over the years, additional programs were created for adults and elders as all of us continue to move through life passages.

Songburbia
A few years ago a Songaia family found it necessary to move from Songaia to the suburbs a couple of miles away. They rented a house that has become a shared house for folks related to Songaia as well as their family.
