How can we design sustainable food systems that re-integrate humans
into the ecology of an area in beneficial ways?

How do we live in community when our societal
structures support separation?
What role does intentional community play in cultivating personal, local, and bioregional resilience in the face of changing global conditions?
About our Garden Program

Songaia Cohousing Community and the Garden-to-table club have hosted a rich, educational Permaculture Internship since 2012.  More than 50 interns have spent from 8 weeks to 6 months working in our permaculture garden and food forests, and participating in our community food program that offers meals 5 times a week. Many have written blogs on our website telling of their experiences.

This internship is for those interested in expanding their knowledge of regenerative agriculture, organic food production, ecological stewardship, intentional communities, and analysis of cultural narratives and systems. Interns have the opportunity to participate in weekly curriculum and field trips to sites modeling regenerative practices.

Our interns have gone on to leadership roles in the environmental movement, taken leadership roles in the Northwest Permaculture community, and joined the Peace Corp.  Many have changed their fields of study to take on degrees in environmental science and sustainability. Some have received credit through their degree programs for our internship.

Available Intern Positions for 2023:

  • Room and board are provided for residential interns.
  • The program begins on the 15th of April and concludes on the 15th of October.
