| Our name, Songaia, means Song of the Living Earth. It symbolizes our vision for an ever evolving community which uses song to help pull us together around our love of the ever evolving earth. Together, we continue an exciting journey grow ing within our intentional cohousing community. |
Songaia is an intentional community in Bothell (near Seattle, Washington). We use the cohousing model - which combines private housing with shared community resources. Songaia is a close community of families and friends. Some visitors have remarked that our relationships are more typical of "traditional" intentional communities.
Songaia is located in a semi-rural area on 11 acres of wooded hillside, gardens, orchard, and meadow. Our 15 homes include studio rentals, and both one and three bedroom duplexes. The homes are arranged around a green village-like commons.

Our shared community life at Songaia is active: members gather frequently for meals, singing, work parties, celebrations, men's and women's circles, and social activities. Our regular celebrations include Solstices, Equinoxes, Earth Day, Thanksgiving, and New Years. The connections we continue to form are creating a strong network of friends and caring neighbors, a safe, supportive environment where children, elders, and families of all types can live more lightly on the land. .
Community, in its various forms, plays an important role in all human lives. We believe that intentional communities have a critical role in the future evolution of the planet and human relations. These communities can encourage sharing the responsibility of our planet with all other life forms, reclaiming ancient, symbolic relationships toward sacred space, conserve the earth's resources through sharing, and re-establish multi-generation/extended family groupings. To these ideals we are committed. We believe that Songaia demonstrates the power and possibility of intentional cohousing community.
