PictureSpreading Compost

On Tuesday, I spent the morning hauling finished compost from the compost bin to specific beds within the garden. It was hard work but a layer of clouds thankfully made it a bit easier. Right before lunch I also planted some fava beans in two beds and tied up some tomatoes.

This past week in the garden was a quiet and satisfying one for me. On Monday Alex and I harvested plums from two trees on the property. This was a job that actually took up a considerable amount of the morning, due to the hauling and repositioning of the ladder every few minutes. After lunch, we spent the afternoon cooking jam! Without Patricia there to lend her expertise we had a little bit of experimenting to do but in the end I think it worked out wonderfully. Now I can say I have made jam twice!

That afternoon I spread more compost, and then worked on signs for the garden warning against pulling the dry beans. It was a nice finish to a difficult but fulfilling day.

Thanks Grace ....your comment about experimentation is one that has been common among the interns over the past 3 years. Nothing is a mistake, only learnings come from experimentation and risk taking, right? It has been a pleasure to see you around the community and share a few words and thoughts.

Be well,

Nancy
